It takes money to operate Adylheim.

Our wonderful website operates almost entirely on open-source software. The website is built on the wonderful Drupal CMS. The forums are based on a heavily modified version of phpBB 3.0. Only our IRC applet and Chat With An Admin features are provided by a third-party (Darkmyst for the former, Meebo for the latter) entirely free of charge. We advertise the web-site on the RPG Host Banner Exchange which, in short, operates on a view-exchange system again without a monetary charge.

So what do we need to pay for? The Adylheim website is hosted on a commercial server. They charge each month for bandwidth, server space, unique IP, and (in the case of calamity) technical support. This cost constitutes the lion’s share of our monthly operating costs. In addition to server costs, we’ve begun advertising the site on Project Wonderful. This site allows users to submit daily bids on ad-space on other website. (And, conversely, to allow other sites to place ads on our website for a small cost.) The amount of money we make from this is usually quite small in comparison to our advertising costs and, in any case, is rolled back into advertising our website.

So what do we want to pay for? We’ve been blessed with an artistic and creative player base. However, in the future, we’re interested in commissioning works of art for our site. Say, for example, paying an artist from DeviantArt to produce a picture of a Dae’vol for the Codex.

Adylheim has, is, and will always be a strictly not-for-profit operation. We strongly believe in financial transparency and accountability. If you have any questions regarding your donation, please feel free to contact any of the administrators through IRC, chat, or on the forums.

If you’re interested in donating to keep the website running, please consider a donation to any of the four following categories:

1) General: You leave the distribution of your donation to the discretion of the administrators.

2) Upkeep: Your money will be used to pay for server costs.

3) Advertisements: Your money will be used to help our efforts to tell more people about our wonderful game.

4) Art Commissions: Your money will be used to pay for art commissioned for our web-site. Due to the costs of commissions and our commitment to procuring quality works, it may take some time to collect enough money to afford a commission.

If you wish to split your donation between more than one category, please leave a note in the "Category" box regarding your desired distribution. Or, alternatively, contact a moderator.

FAQ

Why do we use Paypal?

In short, Paypal allows us to provide the widest variety of payment options with the least amount of paperwork and fees. While you do need a Paypal account, it allows you to pay using credit card, bank account transfers, et cetera. To do this independently would require a bank account, agreements with credit card agencies, and a small mountain of paperwork. A small percent of your donation is deducted as a transaction fee.

Can I donate without an account?

Yes! Provided you have a credit card. Just click on the link underneath the "Don't have a Paypal Account?" heading.

I don't see a category button.

You need to either sign in your account or provide your credit card information first. If you're still unable to find it, please contact an admin with your account information and category preference.
